Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Program
Launch Your Career in Emergency Medicine. In partnership with the Abbotsford School District, the JIBC EMR program provides foundational training for first responders in British Columbia. This program is an excellent starting point for a healthcare career and is a prerequisite for those who wish to continue their education toward becoming a paramedic.
Training and Certification
- The curriculum is hands-on and taught by experienced paramedic field practitioners.
 - Upon successful completion, students receive a JIBC Associate Certificate in Emergency Medical Responder.
 - 
You will also be prepared to complete provincial licensing examinations through the Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board (EMALB).
 
What you will learn
The program covers response to trauma and medical emergencies, including airway/breathing management, CPR/AED use, and spinal injury management. It also includes fundamentals of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology.
Career opportunities
EMR certified graduates can find work in various fields like BC Ambulance Service, fire departments, industrial/remote workplaces, athletic teams’ trainer, ski patrol, and event medical teams.
Who Can Apply?
Grade 10 - 12 students in Abbotsford School District are eligible to apply to this program. To apply, please complete the application form (coming soon), including the Statements of Interest and Intent, and submit the package to your sponsor teacher.
