Aviation Ground School Application

Are you interested in the Aviation or Aerospace industries? Aviation Ground School is the first step to obtaining a private pilot license and in gaining knowledge in an exciting career in aviation. This course, offered by Chinook Helicopters at Abbotsford Airport, allows students to maximize opportunities for future career development in Aviation and Aerospace while still in high school.

  • Duration: Two/three evenings per week for 12 weeks; start September or January of Grade 11 or 12
  • Potential Credits:
  • Prior to Program: Successful completion of
    • all required Grade 10 courses including Math 10 Precalculus & Foundations
    • Completion of Physics 11 and Foundations Math 11 or Pre Cal Math 11 (70% minimum) 
  • Transportation: Responsibility of student
  • Equipment & Textbook costs: Approximately $500
  • Certification Received: Aviation Ground School Completion Certificate
  • Further education opportunities: UFV Aviation Diploma, UFV BBA in Aviation
  • Future employment opportunities: private or commercial pilot (fixed wing & rotary), flight instructor, aircraft maintenance, air traffic control, airport operations
