Rachna Singh, Minister of Education and Child Care, issued the following statement as students return to school.
The Abbotsford School District has initiated a proposed boundary review for the Cooper Meadows Development and the High Street Village Development. These reviews seek to address changes in catchment boundaries resulting from significant residential projects, ensuring students continue to receive the best possible educational experience as our community grows.
Dear Abbotsford School District families,
It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I write my first letter to you as your new Superintendent. I am honoured to step into the role of Superintendent of Schools/CEO for such a vibrant school district and community, and I am truly excited for the road ahead.
Students from Abbotsford brought home 5 medals from the Skills Canada BC Provincial Competition, which took place on April 19, 2023, at the Tradex. The competition featured students from across the province showcasing their skills in trades, serving as the next round of competitions following the regionals held in early March. From Electrical Wiring, Carpentry, Automotive Service, and TV and Film, students successfully demonstrated their expertise, showcased their mastery of the trade and highlighted their creative talents.
Smile Cookie Week is here, with Tim Hortons announcing that the annual campaign will take place from May 1 – 7 in communities nationwide. In Abbotsford, 100% of the proceeds collected from the sale of the iconic pink and blue smile cookies will go directly to the Abbotsford School District’s “Back to School” event, providing students and families who need extra support with a backpack of school supplies, hygiene products, and food hampers.
The Abbotsford Board of Education is currently seeking feedback from parents/guardians, families, employees, students and the larger community on the proposed calendar for the 2023-24 school year.
This past December, the Indigenous Education Advisory Committee reviewed applications submitted by several grade 12 Indigenous students from secondary schools throughout the Abbotsford School District.
Today, Abbotsford School District's Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Godden, announced his intent to retire at the end of the 2022/23 school year to all staff in the district via email. He had discussed this decision with the Abbotsford Board of Education earlier in the school year.
