Brandon Slooyer

A Future on Fire!

One could say Brandon Slooyer ‘s future is on fire! Through the Abbotsford School District’s Level One Carpentry Program and Secondary School Fire Academy, Brandon has gotten a head start on his dual career as a firefighter and carpenter.  The Yale Secondary graduate became fully employed with Hamstra Construction Ltd. as a registered apprentice, and not only earns a respectable paycheck, but also Secondary School Apprenticeship credits on his high school transcript.  He acknowledges the Secondary School Fire Academy as the one factor in earning him a position as one of the youngest ever to be selected for the Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service’s Auxiliary Team, which is a rigorous, challenging and very competitive process. Soon he will be receiving his $1000 SSA Scholarship and just recently Brandon was the recipient of a very special Abbotsford Community Foundation award in honour of Sam Posthumus. Brandon is actively pursuing his ultimate career goal of following in his father’s footsteps to one day own his own carpentry company and become a full time firefighter.  Clearly Brandon is well on his way!
